Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday said the sedition charge brought against the party’s senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman is illogical.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon at party’s central office said ‘We are surprised and concerned over the sedition charge brought by Detective Branch centering some portions of Tarique Rahman’s speech in the case filed on behalf of Bangabandhu foundation.’
The party spokesman said what Tarique said in his speech did not speak on his own rather he made the statements based on various published articles, books and references on the history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
The charges should be brought against the writers of those articles and books not Tarique, bringing sedition charge against him is illogical, Ripon said.
Ripon said not facing Tarique politically; government is trying to harass him by filing cases against him, which is unjust, undemocratic and devoid of civilisation.
He said that the government is making ill-attempt to harass opponent leaders by using administration and applying law, unlawfully as an undemocratic government and it was not elected by peoples’ vote.
BNP leaders Abdullah Al Noman, Kamal Ibne Yusuf Selima Rahman, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Asadul Karim Shahin and Taqdir Hossain Jasim ,among others, were present.
