Four films are scheduled to hit cinemas across the country on this Eid-ul-Azha.
The films are Badiul Alam Khokon’s Raja Babu, Ashok Pati’s joint-venture film Ashiqi, Ashraf Shishir’s Gariwala and Shahriar Nazim Joy’s Prarthona.
Raja Babu and Ashiqi are thoroughly commercial films and produced with considerably big budgets while Gariwala and Prarthona are off-track family dramas.
Clearly, the box office will be dominated by the former two, facing off actors Shakib Khan and Ankush (Ashiqi) against each other for a second time after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Shakib starred opposite Apu Biswas and Bobby in Raja Babu while Indian-Bengali actor Ankush will be seen romancing debutant Nusrat Faria in Ashiqi – both films slated for release at over 60 cinemas each.
Raja Babu, featuring a love triangle between a guy and two girls, was shot in beautiful locations at home and abroad. ‘We worked to an extremely tight schedule to get the film ready for an Eid release but no compromise was made on the quality. I hope the filmgoers will love watching it,’ said Badiul Alam Khokon.
Meanwhile, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the Indo-Bangla joint-venture production Ashiqi, already released in West Bengal on September 18, for its songs and its actress who fetched praise from Tollywood stalwarts such as Prosenjit Chatterjee.
The romantic thriller introduces Nusrat Faria – a former model, reality show host and radio jockey – as a film actress to the local audience. It was shot exclusively in England and Scotland.
‘I am really excited at this moment. I hope my first film will be loved by the audience,’ said Faria.
Ashraf Shishir’s government-grant film Gariwala has been on the pages of newspapers for quite some time because of its achievement as the winner of a number of prestigious awards in international film festivals.
Depicting a moving tale of two siblings and their mother fighting to break free from the grip of poverty, Garwala is Shishir’s debut film. The film stars Rokeya Prachi, Raisul Islam Asad and Masum Aziz in major roles.
Besides being released at a few cinemas in Dhaka, the film will have its world premiere on the private television channel Channel i on the fifth day of Eid-ul-Azha.
Actor Shahriar Nazim Joy will debut as a director with Prarthona, which focused on the growing distance created between parents and their children in the contemporary urban society.
The film stars Taukir Ahmed, Kalyan, Mousumi Nag, Nawshin, Jara, Pramiya and Shahriar Nazim Joy in the leading roles.
‘As it is my first film as a director, I am excited and nervous at the same time. The viewers will give their verdict after watching it, but I hope for the best,’ said Joy.
Prarthona will have its world premiere on Channel i on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha and will also be released in several cinemas.
