Policemen responsible for Tangail violence closed

The policemen who were involved in the clash in Tangail centring people’s protest against molestation of a mother before her son on Friday were withdrawn and closed to police lines on Saturday, said deputy inspector general of Dhaka range Md Nuruzzaman.
Departmental action will be taken against those following the probe report supposed to be available today, he said.
The DIG told the reporters after visiting the spot at Kalihati in the afternoon.
At least three people were killed and five were injured as police opened fire at local people who clashed with the police during their protests against an alleged sexual harassment at Kalihati in Tangail on Friday.
The incident created a tense situation in the area. Additional police were deployed to avoid further trouble. A large number of offices, schools, colleges were shut down on Saturday but transportation of Tangail-Mymensingh and North Bengal-Mymensingh remained normal.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem examinations of the victims were completed at Tangail Medical College hospital morgue today.
The victims died of bullet-wounds, said a physician of the three-member autopsy committee.
The bodies were handed over to their relatives this afternoon.
Tangail deputy commissioner Mahbub Hossain provided Tk 50,000 for each family of the victims.
The district administration will bear all the expenses for the treatment of the injured, he said.
A three-member probe committee already started their work, he added.
Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kalihati police station, said they detained five people for interrogation.
No case was filed yet with the police station but police are preparing to file a case for attacking them, he said.

  1. Police close = eye wash. These police members should be produced to court immediately and bring under the existing laws and should be punished. They exercised undue power and killed three innocent people.
