Three writers win BRAC-Samakal award

Writers Harishankar Jaladas, Sushmita Islam and Muzib Erom have won the BRAC Bank-Samakal Shahitya Puroshkar 2014.
The award was conferred on Harishankar Jaladas for his book Pratidwandi in the poetry and novel category, and Sushmita Islam for her book Amar Dinguli in the essay, autobiography, travel story and translation category.
Muzib Erom won the award for his book Ksbibangsho in the Humayun Ahmed Young Writer category, said a press release.
BRAC Bank and Daily Samakal launched the award in 2011. Later, the Young Writer’s Award was dedicated to the memory of late novelist Humayun Ahmed.
The award was announced at a programme at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Friday. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director and CEO of BRAC Bank Limited, and Golam Sarwar, editor of Daily Samakal, were present on the occasion.
The awardees received Tk 100,000 as prize money each, as well as crests and citations.
The three winning books were selected from a collection of 476 entries submitted to the jury panel, which comprised professor Mustafa Nurul Islam, professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, poet Asad Chowdhury and novelist Selina Hossain.
