Ansarullah leader held over Ashulia bank robbery

A New Age file photo shows the Kathgara branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited in Ashulia where Ansarullah Bangla Team members made a futile robbery attempt on April 21 killing nine people.

Police arrested a suspected leader of the banned Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team from the city’s Badda area on Sunday in connection with Ashulia bank heist.
Eleven people were arrested so far in this connection.
The arrested was identified as Mahfuzul Islam Shamim alias Sumon.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Dhaka district police launched a drive in Badda area and arrested the militant leader, said additional police super of Dhaka Shyamal Kumar, United News of Bangladesh reports.
Details of the drive are supposed to be disclosed at a press briefing at around 3:00pm today.
On April 21, nine people, including a bank manager and a robber, were killed and 23 others injured during a robbery bid at a branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd at Kathgara in Ashulia.
