National committee to protect oil, gas and mineral resources, power and ports member secretary Anu Mohammad on Thursday urged the prime ministers of Bangladesh and India to stop the project of Rampal coal-fired power plant.
‘We urged both prime ministers of Bangladesh and India to stop the project for protecting the eco-system and human lives in the project area,’ Anu Mohammad said addressing a rally in front of National Press Club.
He said Indian prime minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in June. ‘We want a joint announcement form Modi and Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard,’ he added.
Anu Mohammad said if the government will not stop the project, the national committee would be bound to launch a greater movement against the government.
Among others, national committee to protect oil, gas and mineral resources, power and ports convener Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah, columnist Syed Abul Maksud, Institute of Water and Environment chairperson M Inamul Haque, energy expert Kallol Mustafa, left party leaders Saiful Haque, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Moshrefa Mishu, Zonayed Saki, Bazlur Rashid Feroz,  and Abul Hossain were present at the rally.

    ধান দিয়া কি হবে, জান যদি না থাকে? [what is the benefits of crops if we are no more?] AL govt. has taken Sundarban as a problem. they are trying in all possible way to eliminate sundarban. More and more protest in a very strong way is required to save sundarban from Awami leageue.
