Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday approved two cases against Rana Plaza owner Abdul Khalek and his wife Morjina Begum on charge of amassing illegal wealth.
They are also parents of Sohel Rana, who was arrested after Rana Plaza collapsed at Saver on April 24, 2013 killing 1,138 people – most of them female garment workers.
According to the commission findings, Rana’s father Khalek illegally earned around Tk 10.25 crore and his mother Morjina around Tk 6.67 crore illegally, an ACC official told reporters.
He said the commission deputy director, M Mahbubul Alam, will file the cases with Savar police next week.
Earlier in July, 2014, the commission submitted a charge-sheet in the Rana Plaza construction forgery case including the name of Sohel Rana.
The commission on June 15, 2014 filed a case against 17 people, including Rana’s parents, whose names were mentioned in the documents of ownership, and Savar municipality mayor Refayet Ullah, with Savar model police station.
The ACC said it included Rana’s name in the charge sheet as one of the main accused for his alleged involvement in tampering with the construction of the collapsed building.
The commission also found that though the owners had got approval for setting up a shopping mall, it was used to house RMG factories.
