Stranded passengers of an international flight held demonstration on Monday at Sylhet Osmani International Airport to protest at suspension of scheduled flight.
Operation of foreign air-carrier resumed on Wednesday through a flight of Flydubai Airlines that reached the Sylhet airport from Dubai and then left the airport for Dubai after refueling here.
The Flydubai Airlines authorities declared on that day that they would operate five flights from Sylhet every week, except Sunday and Thursday.
All seats of the flights scheduled for the current month were also booked within first four days of the month, yet the authorities suspended its flight from Sylhet, forcing the passengers to reach in Dhaka by bus or train to report at Shahjalal International Airport, sources in the airlines and its passengers said.
Around 100 passengers of Flydubai airlines reached the Sylhet airport on Monday morning and started demonstrating inside of the concourse hall of the airport around 11:00am after they found no officials and employees of the airlines at the airport, the passengers said.
They also staged demonstration in front of the concourse hall of the airport to press for the demand to reach them in Dubai directly from the Sylhet airport, eyewitnesses said.
Being contacted, Flydubai Airlines’ Sylhet office manager Masum Ahmad told New Age that the flight scheduled to be operated from Sylhet on Monday was suspended two days back.
Money would be returned to the passengers who want to cancel their tickets and the passengers would be facilitated to fly from Dhaka or Chittagong if they could reach there, Masum added.
He, however, declined to explain the reason behind cancelling the direct flights from Sylhet by the airlines.
