Ensuring quality higher education still a challenge: president

The president, Abdul Hamid, on Thursday underscored the need for formulating modern curricula and world-class teaching and evaluation methods as ensuring quality higher education and its gradual development has turned out to be challenge.
‘We have to keep in mind that it’s a big challenge for us to ensure the quality higher education and its gradual development apart from increasing the number of institutions and students. Universities have to come forward to face the challenge,’ he said.
Abdul Hamid said this while addressing the 14th convocation of East West University on its city campus.
A total of 1,445 students received degrees at the convocation while two students were given gold medals for their outstanding performance.
The president said all need to inspire students to pursue education on information technology and its use apart from the existing one. ‘I firmly believe Bangladesh’s youths would conquer the world by didn’t of technology,’ he added.
Mentioning university as the best place for higher studies and research, Abdul Hamid said the country’s universities would be able to unveil the huge door of knowledge before the students through real higher education, relentless practicing of knowledge, research and creative activities.
Observing that the overall development of a nation depends on moral standard apart from materialistic one, the President hoped that all will come forward to enrich the future generation in knowledge-science and moral standard.
Former chief justice Md Tafazzul Islam, chairperson of board of trustee of EWU Mohammed Farashuddin and EWU vice chancellor Ahmed Shafee spoke at the function. Executive director of Ain O Salish Kendra Sultana Kamal was the convocation speaker.
